Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

This book follows a girl Celaena Sardothien a former assassin who was taken from a death camp working in the mines to compete in a competition to become the king’s champion if she wins and becomes the king’s champion she will have to work for him for 4 years before she gains her freedom. As the competition goes on other champions are mysteriously winding up dead and more information comes to light Celaena realizes that there is something deeper going on in the castle.

The main character is Celaena what makes her interesting is you don’t really learn a lot about her backstory you only learn what the other characters around her learn so there’s this air of mystery around her. She also is incredibly sassy and funny and strong willed and has been an assassin from a young age which makes you wonder why she became one or what lead to her being found by the assassins.

This book reminded me a bit of the book Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard because they’re both about young women who don’t like their kings and have hardships in life and both of the main characters develop a crush on the son of the king the prince. I personally liked this one more though because I enjoyed the writing style more and I found the plot more interesting than the other book.

I liked the cover. It gives certain hints at what the story’s about but not enough that it’s overly obvious until the end of the book.

I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend it to others because the characters are complex and interesting and funny, the world that they live in is interesting to because you learn details as you go along instead of just getting overloaded with information in the beginning of the book. It’s also the first book in the series but it doesn’t end in a cliff hanger so if you wanted to you could stop reading after the first book.
