Department of Human Services                                                                                                                                                                              This government department offers medical and financial aid, food stamps and social services to Rhode Islanders in need. 
Community Care Alliance                                                                                                                                                                                        This agency provides counseling, treatment and support services; food, shelter and housing; programs to assist with self-sufficiency such as employment, financial literacy and vocational training; and support for self-help.

Blackstone Valley Community Action Program  This agency is to assist low-moderate income people and empower them to become self-reliant, responsible citizens. 
​Child Care Assistance
The Providence Regional Family Center provides support for low-income working families by providing access to affordable, high-quality early care and afterschool programs.

National Head Start Agency
A federally funded program which offers a wide range of services to low-income children aged three to five years old.

Department of Children, Youth and Families
DCYF integrates the 3 major public responsibilities for troubled children, youth and families in one agency: Child Welfare, Children's Behavioral Health, and Juvenile Corrections.

Family Service of RI
Family Service of RI builds social service partnerships that respond creatively to the unmet needs of individuals, families and the community so that people are able to live independently, advocate for themselves, and better their own lives.

Rhode Island KIDS COUNT is a children’s policy and advocacy organization that provides information on child well-being, stimulates dialogue on children’s issues, and promotes accountability and action.
Food Assistance Program
SNAP offers nutrition assistance to millions of eligible, low-income individuals and families and provides economic benefits to communities.

Northern RI Residents
​The Ocean State Dining Program provides nutritionally balanced, hot lunches served five days a week at more than 75 meal sites for persons who are 60 or older or disabled.

RI Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
The WIC Program provides supplemental foods, nutrition education and referrals to health care, at no cost, to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are determined to be at nutritional risk.

RI Food Bank
The Rhode Island Community Food Bank provides food to people in need and promotes long-term solutions to the problem of hunger.

Pantry is open last two Tuesdays (5:00-7:00pm) and last two Saturdays (10:00-11:00am) each month.
Applications for N. Smithfield residents take place in January & June, with a picture ID AND utility bill. Pantry attendees may visit pantry twice per month.

 RI Medical Assistance (Medicaid)
The Rhode Island Medical Assistance Program, also known as "Medicaid", is a Federal and state funded program that pays for medical and health related services for eligible Rhode Islanders. This includes inpatient and outpatient hospital care, preventive services, durable medical equipment, and many more services and benefits.

The Department of Human Services provides this website for Veterans which offers information regarding insurance, education, employment/training and housing.

 RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery
Many states have established state veterans cemeteries. Eligibility is similar to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) national cemeteries, but may include residency requirements. Even though they may have been established or improved with Government funds through VA's Veterans Cemetery Grants Program, state veterans cemeteries are run solely by the states.
